I know Matt and Liesa are really pleased to be back after not being able to work in November. Online bookings are now open for sports and remedial massage again in Stafford, but you can also call 01785 530911 for an appointment.
You can book online on our website, call us on 01785 530911 (Stafford) or 01952 825042 (Newport), or Contact Us and we will book you in or get in touch ASAP.

Hello again! We hope you are well š We’ve been back open for Chiropractic and Shockwave for over a month now with our qualified Chiropractor Chris, and even though it’s been different, we hope you haven’t noticed too much of a change.
Although all of the extra cleaning procedures, spacing out of appointments and PPE mean that our costs have actually increased and we are seeing less people, to help our patients during these tough times, we are keeping our prices the same for now. Hopefully it’ll get back to normal soon, but unfortunately we may have to see how it goes over the next few months as to whether we need to increase our charges a little to cover the extra costs.
It’s been a tough time for small businesses like ours over the last few months, and will continue to be tough for a while yet. We are asking for your help by simply letting other people know we are here. It only takes a few minutes, so if you’re happy to help us please do.
You can do this by giving us positive reviews on Google, or by hitting the like or “Invite friends” (click the three dots “…” then “Invite friends” option in the page menu next to the “Share” button) on our Facebook pages. We would really appreciate the support š

That being said, we are relatively busy at the moment. Lock-down seems to have brought about a few aches and pains! Chris has increased his clinic hours from the start of August to cope with demand, and also started seeing new chiropractic patients face to face again. He will also be changing his hours slightly from September.
Yes, Matt and Liesa are back! Again, there will be some procedural changes, but hopefully you won’t notice anything significant. Online bookings are now open for sports and remedial massage in Stafford, but you can also call 01785 530911 for an appointment..

It’s been an interesting few days, with storm Ciara bringing rain, wind and snow to the region. Hopefully once everything settles back down we can get back to normal and spring will be on the way!
Spring seems to be the time of year when the gardeners come out in force and many of them end up seeing someone like myself for those new found aches and pains, so to help avoid potential problems, here are a number of handy tips:
Donāt start with heavy-duty gardening. Warm up with the lighter jobs, like mowing the lawn, and then move on to something else. It is important to vary your activity every 30 minutes or so rather than be in one position for too long.
If you are laying a patio, keep the slab close to your body and bend through your knees and hips. It is sometimes better to bend one knee rather than two to pick up or move objects (also known as a āgolfers liftā) as your supporting leg gives you a position of strength.
If you are planning a trip to the garden centre to buy heavy items such as bags of compost or pebbles ā buy multiple small bags rather than one big bag. Smaller items are easier and safer to carry. If there is no other option, ask someone else to help carry it to the car and then when you get home, shovel out smaller quantities straight from the car and put it into smaller containers.
Do not ignore pain. It can be a warning sign and could indicate something more serious or damaging. If you start to ache then stop what you are doing, have a break and come back to it later once the pain has eased. If there is no improvement, have it checked out as soon as possible.
Most injuries that I see are typically avoidable and we specialise in helping you to recover and then manage them. Studies have shown that chiropractic care, including spinal manipulation and mobilisation combined with appropriate exercises and education, is a very effective method in keeping back pain at bay.

As a Chiropractor, I am often asked for advice on pillows, beds and mattresses and which ones can help to prevent back or neck pain. In truth, there is no single answer that suits all.
Research by the British Chiropractic Association in 2013 showed that of those experiencing back or neck pain, 30% said that their pain could be brought on by a nightās so-called ārestā. We all come in different weights, shapes and sizes, but have one thing in common: we spend more than a third of our lives in bed, so choosing the right bed, pillow or mattress is essential to help reduce the risk.
Which is better, a hard or soft mattress?
The best mattress is a āsupportive oneā. A 16 stone person sleeping on a mattress may not get the same support as a 10 stone person sleeping on the same mattress. If you are lying on your side, your spine should be parallel to the mattress and your spine should not sag (bed too soft) or bow (bed too hard). The longer you can spend lying on a mattress before you buy it, the more accurate this feeling will be.
Your pillow should be an extension of this i.e. your neck should be a continuation of the straight spine and not too high or too low. In clinic we sell the fantastic Complete Sleeprrr pillow and highly recommend it if you suffer neck problems and need a new pillow. For more information visit:Ā Which Pillow Do We Recommend?
How do I know if my current bed/mattress needs replacing?
Are you and your partner getting comfortable nights sleep? If the answer is no, your bed may be the problem. Can you feel the springs through the mattress? If the answer is yes, it is definitely time to buy a new one. Is the bed more than 8 years old? If the answer is yes, consider purchasing a new one ā beds wear out and may sag or lose support with time.
How do I minimise back or neck problems?
Try and adopt a sleeping position which creates less physical stress on the back. For example, lying on your side is better than lying on your front with your neck twisted to one side. Also try to avoid being in any one position for too long, and if your partner moves around a lot at night, try separate beds for a while as your partnerās movement could aggravate YOUR back condition!

As I was sorting through some of our old things a few days ago, I happened to come across something really quite interesting.
It was an old MRI scan of my lower back when I was in my first year of chiropractic school, at the ripe old age of 28 (Iām now nearly 42!). I was suffering quite severe back and leg pain at the time, and I can still remember being told that I had the āspine of a 65 year oldā by one of the doctors. However, as I looked at it, I realised that it was very similar to many other MRI scans that I have seen since graduating, and Iām not concerned in the slightest!
Over the years, Iāve lost count of the number of times Iāve seen clients who are so afraid that they will damage their back due to ādisc bulgesā or a ācrumbling spineā, that they are almost too apprehensive to move. I can appreciate that. Severe back or nerve pain is excruciating. Debilitating. Until you experience it, itās difficult to describe how painful it is and you will do anything not to experience it again. However, allowing your fear of injury to control you is not the answer for long term management.
One of the main challenges with persistent back problems is learning how to move better again with confidence and coordination. A big part of this is building stability, strength and mobility through exercise, a healthy lifestyle and techniques such as Yoga, Pilates, massage and Chiropractic. Getting good advice and maintaining good movement is essential.
Being out of pain, or trying to get fit is most peopleās goal when exercising but I think itās also a great idea to find something you enjoy doing and train towards being able to do that more. For example, strength and mobility training helps me to do what I really love: riding my mountain bike. Having recently completed the brilliant āArd Rock Enduro in Yorkshire, I can confidently say that I feel fitter and stronger than Iāve ever felt on a bike. But Iāve had to work hard at it ā there are no shortcuts!
My message for all those with chronic, recurrent back pain is this: OK, so you’ve got back problems. Now, what are you going to do about it? Your spine is far stronger and more resilient than you may be led to believe, and back problems don’t have to stop you doing the things you love. Unless you let them.
