Chiropractic and Massage Christmas hours

Merry Christmas! Our Chiropractic, Massage & Shockwave opening hours

Wishing all of our clients a happy Christmas and New Year. We will be closing the chiropractic, massage and shockwave clinics in Newport and Stafford over the festive period to spend some quality time to relax with family and friends.

We feel it’s so important for our physical and mental health to take some time out and unwind after a rather stressful year for everyone. We hope you find the time to do the same.

If you are struggling over Christmas, and in pain then please contact us. We may not be able to do hands-on treatment but we are more than happy to try and give some free, helpful advice (Sorry, existing patients only as we can’t give advice without a previous examination).

Chris and Liesa are off from 24th December and back on 4th January.

Stafford sports massage – helping you recover

Our Stafford sports massage therapists could help you to recover from muscle soreness, and a recent study backs this up.

It’s great to be able to exercise regularly, and it is well established that keeping active benefits human health, especially reducing the risk of obesity and cardiovascular disease. However, occasionally you can overdo it, causing temporary muscle damage and what is often known as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

DOMS can often cause stiffness, reduced range of motion and even a drop in performance for those that like to train regularly. People often try all sorts of recovery methods including ice, stretching or low intensity exercise. But, as a review of clinical trials concluded, there is some evidence that sports massage reduces delayed onset muscle soreness.

Getting a good sports massage after training might mean you get fewer aches in the following days.

The effect of massage therapy is thought to be to increase skin and muscle temperature, blood and lymphatic flow, and parasympathetic activity. As a result, the effects include relief of muscle tension and stiffness, reduction of muscle soreness, and increased joint range of motion. Which then means you can get back to training at your full potential quicker!

Mountain Biking

Have the January blues? Getting active can help!

After all the build-up and hype around Christmas, it’s gone so quickly that January can often be a bit of a let-down. It’s hard to get back into the routine of things, particularly when it comes to exercise and staying healthy.

I’ve found it difficult this year too. With a number of injuries, a rather stressful house extension, and a very busy practice; it’s been a struggle to keep motivated to stay fit and strong. Despite this, I know I’ll get back to it again because I enjoy my mountain biking.

One of the things I often try to encourage my clients to do is to find something they enjoy that gets them active. It doesn’t matter what it is: swimming; cycling; Zumba; Pilates or simply going for a walk. Being active and doing something you enjoy is just as good for you mentally as it is physically. It has been shown to be one of the most effective remedies for feeling down and for your general well-being.

However, I know it’s not always easy when you’ve got aches and pains. I’ve been through back injuries and surgery and have been told before that I should give up riding down ‘bumpy hills’ as it’s not good for my back. I strongly disagree.

In all activity, having a spine that functions well but is also strong and stable is vital to both good movement and staying injury free. It’s the biggest reason why everyone (including athletes or those just looking to stay healthy) should be maintaining good spinal function, good movement patterns, and good core stability. These three factors are hugely important in both professional and amateur sports (and movement in general) if you want to enjoy your chosen activity as much as possible.

Unless there’s a very good reason, no-one should ever tell you to stop doing a sport or activity you love doing. With the right treatment, advice and training, almost everyone can continue with their chosen activity and lead a better quality of life.

Congratulations to Liesa, who trained at the well respected NLSSM School of Sports Massage to obtain one of the highest standards of massage therapy training: a BTEC Level 5 Professional Diploma in Sport and Remedial Massage Therapy. After already gaining many hours of experience whilst training at our Stafford clinic, and enjoying seeing her regulars, Liesa looks forward to helping more people during her future career as a massage therapist!

As Liesa has now completed her massage training, she is now able to officially charge a fee for her services and so prices for appointments will be going up to £35 for an hours session (which is still excellent value!).
